Citizen's Arrest, Citizen's Arrest
Yesterday I spent a good amount of time out on Folly, and I was very annoyed by the disrespect that people show the beach and the residents of the island. I witnessed littering on the beach, driving recklessly, and spitting from the rooftops onto the sidewalk below, all of which should not go unpunished, even if it means just calling someone out on this less-than-kosher behavior.

I am a pack rat, a hoarder of sorts. I am afraid to throw things away because what if I need to use the thing in question in the future. I am the same way with emails. I like a paper trail. I have a Gmail account that I use for personal correspondence, and I rarely delete emails. I was looking back through some of the things I had written awhile back, and it seems like there were many...

I love magazines. I just get so excited every time I open the mailbox and see a big, fat glossy book of all sorts pretty pictures, interesting articles, cool stuff to buy and wonderful-smelling perfume samples. And one of my favorites is InStyle. It’s always so thick and filled to the brim of really great stuff. Recently, they featured the 2009 Best Beauty Buys, and one of the articles...
An addendum to my multiple names debacle...
As my sister, Leigh, points out, I have 2384902384 names. Not quite that many, but close. My parents named me Elizabeth only because they liked the derivative “Bess,” which is what they call me, along with friends from high school, college, and a few other places. Friends from my college job call me “Liz,” because the owner’s daughter told me that she wanted to...

All great cities have major league franchises. Faded industrial giants cling to theirs with hundreds of millions of dollars in incentives and irrational zeal that borders on the insane. The Hurricanes arrival was similarly political. The longer it remains, the more intertwined it becomes with our regional identity.

Wall Art
Ever since I have known that I was moving, I have been trying to figure out what kind of artwork I wanted to hang above my bed. I had a lot of ideas, but some of them were getting kind of expensive, and I really didn’t have a lot of money to throw at it. So, after looking at a lot of design blogs (thank you, Apartment Therapy!!!) and art on the internet, I finally decided that I really liked the...
Farewell to Midpines Drive...
This past weekend, I had the opportunity to go back to Raleigh to say goodbye to John’s house on Mid Pines Drive. I got up on Saturday morning, drove up to Raleigh, had a wonderful time, then got back in my car and returned to Charleston on Sunday. And I would do it all over again, given the chance. The house has been sold, and after the 15th, it will just be another house. However, for...
